Buoyancy aids and PFDs

A buyer should see flotation guidance before they buy a beginner inflatable craft, not only after they start planning a first trip.

Make flotation part of the buying decision.

This page is a signpost, not personal safety instruction. The campaign ask is that retailers make suitable flotation choices visible and route buyers to recognised advice before purchase.

  • A buoyancy aid, PFD, or lifejacket needs to be suitable for the person, activity, clothing, water environment, and ability level.
  • Retail pages should make it clear when flotation equipment is not included with a board, kayak, or beginner bundle.
  • Sizing and fit matter — check recognised guidance or ask a specialist before you buy.
  • Product imagery should avoid normalising beginner paddling without visible flotation equipment.
